Cynthia Adina Kirkwood

In 2012, I moved to the Beiras in central Portugal. I speak some Portuguese and can understand English submissions from Portuguese speakers more easily than others.

 

I have made a living from words.

 

As well as editing news stories at the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE, I also have experience as a grant writer, university and workshop writing teacher, newspaper reporter, fiction writer, and proofreader at Arthur Andersen & Co.

 

I can edit American or British English as I lived in Britain for 17 years.

 

My areas of expertise and interests are varied. They include philosophy, economics and politics. As a general assignment reporter, I covered many subjects, including education.

 

If I am unfamiliar with the subject matter of a paper, I will acquaint myself with it quickly.

 

I received my Bachelor of Arts from Williams College in Massachusetts, where I majored in Religion. I spent one year abroad at the American University in Cairo. I earned a Master of Arts from the Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies in Washington, D.C., where I studied International Economics, African Studies and Comparative Politics. After graduation, I received a Certificate of Journalism Education from the University of California at Berkeley in the Summer Program for Minority Journalists.
